Buttermere Round and a bit of Crummock Water

Name of walk Buttermere Round and a bit of Crummock Water
Date of walk 2012-07-23
My sister Vanessa is staying with us for a week so on Saturday Brendan and I took her to Buttermere to walk around the lake. A walk of under 5 miles.
We got to Buttermere at 9am to guarantee a free car parking space on the hill.

As we rounded the end of the lake we spoke of the time in February 2007 when we had shared our sandwiches with a black and white cat. Just after we mentioned the cat, it appeared! Just as friendly as before, but this time we didn't stop for lunch here, I think it was disappointed!

9

We stopped here for a sit-down and a scone with homemade strawberry jam.

11

Looking over to High Stile.

12

The path goes through a tunnel.

Looking over to Buttermere Village as we head for the farm that makes their own ice cream.

16

After our ice cream we parked in the car park at Crummock Water to walk a short circuit along the north end and around to the Kirkstile Inn for lunch. The route was less than 2 miles.

On the way home we stopped off at the Whinlatter Forrest Visitors Centre for a coffee and a look at the live video feed of osprey chicks in the nest.
