Finally we reach half-term and get a glorious day. Janet and I, plus Poppy and Miffy the dogs, went to Torver and trekked up to Coniston Old Man (2633ft) by the Boo Tarn route that goes via Bursting Stone Quarry and the south ridge, then over to Dow Crag (2555ft) and back to the Walna Scar Road via Brown Pike (2237ft) and Buck Pike (2430ft). About eight or nine miles. Janet had inherited Miffy, a tiny, elderly Yorkshire Terrier from her late mother, this was to be her first summit. The poor thing ended up doing four!
Mist over Coniston Water from the route from Torver to the Walna Scar Road.
Brown Pike, Buck Pike, Dow Crag and then Coniston Old Man on the right. Our starting-up point was to be just off the right of the photo.
Torver Beck with the slate piles behind. Poppy goes paddling.
View to Coniston Village from the Quarry Road.
Bursting Stone Quarry.
The south ridge route was a mixture of rock and grass with no paths, so we had to look for the best route and go for it....it was steep! Good views over to Dow Crag from near the summit.
Mist settling in the valleys.
View from the summit out to the Scafells, some snow has survived.
View down to Low Water and Levers Water.
Miffy on her first summit!
The route up Dow Crag. In the distance the Isle of man looks like it is peeking out of the clouds!
Goats Hause looking down at Goats Tarn. Dow Crag is looming on the right.

Getting close to sunset.
The walk took about six hours. It was very warm for February, although cold on the summit of the Old Man.
I think Miffy will sleep well tonight, I know I will!
