|Name of walk||Dalton St. Mary's Christmas Tree Festival 2014|
|Date of walk||2014-11-30|
This year’s theme for the Christmas Tree Festival is ‘Television Programmes’. There are 52 decorated trees sponsored by community groups in order to raise money for various charities. The Festival in St Mary’s Church, Dalton-in-Furness, is open each Friday, Saturday and Sunday 2-6pm through to December the 28th. £1 admission. Entry is free when you combine your visit with a church service! 😉
I get to church early to take a few photos while it is still empty. View down the main aisle.
Bell ringers Carl and Stan at the back of the church before service ringing on Sunday morning.

Tree 41 next to the bell tower door is the Bell Ringers' Tree, raising money for the British Heart Foundation. Our tree is 'The Great British Bake Off' and decorated by Jacqueline. So if you visit make sure you put a few coins in our box!
The altar Nativity Scene.
We return to St Mary's in the evening to ring for the Dalton Christmas Lights Switch-On Procession. With ringing from 4pm until 5.30pm.
Before ringing I go up the tower to take some photos as the sun starts to set.
View over Dalton Castle
While I am on the roof the bells start to ring. They are incredibly loud up here! A subtle hint that I should return to the ringing room, methinks.
Keith, Stan, Alan, Johnny and Carl.
Jacqueline, Rachel and Anne.
After ringing I take a few more pix. This is more my era...The 'Dixon of Dock Green' tree...."Evening all" ....George Dixon, the only ever eighty year old copper! Bless him! (The Samaritans)
' Dr. Who'.....even better! (Mandy Allonby for Combat Stress)
'Thomas the Tank Engine'.....I am almost word perfect having watched each episode a trillion times! (Furness Building Society for Jigsaw Children's Hospital, Carlisle)
'Gardener's World'.....no presenter since has bettered Geoff Hamilton! (Parkinson's Disease Society)
I stay for the procession. Not great pix...no flash, so some movement. Town Crier, Band and Mayor.
Reindeer pulling Santa's sleigh. No Wise Men on camels this year.
Santa's Sleigh has more security men than Reindeer!
Go and have a look at the trees, they are impressive! With thanks to the Rev Allan Mitchell and the Festival Committee.
