Decided to go up from Wasdale Head to Illgill Head, on the side of Wast Water, and known as the Wast Water Screes (2000ft). A circular walk along the tops of the screes to Whin Rigg, down to Nether Wasdale and back along the Lake to where we started. Ten miles plus! Very hot today 29C so the forecast said. Very good for aerobic fitness! Took two bottles of water and still needed to refill with stream water.
View of Wasdale Head.
Still a way to go.
Yewbarrow on the left.
Top of Illgill Head.
Over the edge!
Along the nice flat top to Winn Rigg.
A sheer drop just behind me.
Sellafield top right....too hazy
View back to Illgill Head.
View from the summit of Winn Rigg looking seawards. Sellafield just in view top right. The way down is off right just infront of the gully.
Summit pix. Eskdale range behind.
The way down. Yes it was as steep as it looks! Knee killing!!
Finally on the road and looking back to the gully far right. Looks grassy but was waist high bracken!
Views back to the top. Nice water reflections.
Now only need to walk back to the other end just past Yewbarrow on the left! Feet starting to ache a bit now!
