| Name of walk | Greendale: Anglers Crag, Ennerdale |
| Date of walk | 2025-06-18 |
For a change of scene I drove to Ennerdale and parked at Bowness Knott. Parking here always used to be free. They now want £10 for the time it would take to walk around the lake. There are no machines to take cash or card. It has to be via the RINGO app. There is no phone signal. There is never a signal here. I have 48 hrs to pay up. Plus all this money they are now getting from visitors and they can’t even put in any toilet facilities. There is nothing here at all to warrant the high charges. I’m a little annoyed! Not a good start to a relaxing walk!
Looking across Ennerdale to Crag Fell.
Anglers Crag below Crag Fell, my destination. I was still annoyed by the parking situation and it was ruining my walk so I decided to go back to the car and drive to Bleach Green car park which is free.
Plenty of space in the car park at Bleach Green. I walk to Ennerdale for a view of Bowness Knott with Great Borne to the left. Then I make for the weir.
Lovely.
I head along the lakeshore path. The route off up to Anglers Crag is just ahead.
I head up the narrow path.
View back.
The view from Anglers Crag summit. The Red Pike range on the left, Pillar and Steeple on the right.
View back to Bowness Knott and Great Borne.
I move a bit further down and have some lunch.
Looking up to Crag Fell and The Pinnacles.
I head down to the left of the fell, back to the lakeshore path and return via Robin Hood's Chair.
Approaching The Chair.
After this I was nearly back at the point where I turned for the Anglers Crag path. I walked back to my car.
I took an evening walk to Wastwater.
The short time I was at Bowness Knott cost me about £3. Brendan paid it that evening as he has the app on his phone and a phone signal. I don’t think I’ll ever bother going back to Bowness Knott by car, not when Bleach Green is free….but free for how long?
