Wansfell

Name of walk Wansfell
Date of walk 2026-10-07

On Wednesday Sue and I drove to Troutbeck, parking under the trees in the road before the church. We would be walking up to Wansfell Pike via Robin Lane, then along the ridge to Wansfell returning to Troutbeck village via Nanny Lane, with a small diversion to the Mortal Man pub before walking back through the village and down the hill to the car. A circuit of about six miles. We set off walking just before 8am. This time we didn’t even notice the steepness of the hill that leads up to Robin Lane.

01

The route up Robin Lane is just to the left of the Post Office Tea Room, which is shut on a Wednesday so we will need to visit the pub later instead. I took this photo on our return, as I forgot this morning.

Sue heading for the stile into Nanny Lane, a path between two walls that leads all the way back down to Troutbeck. If navigation is not your forte then this is the route for you!

34

Once over the stile we stop and chat to some guys from a Cockermouth walking group.

Cute!

42

Once on the road we head left for the pub.

The six mile walk took us four hours and forty five minutes, this doesn’t include the pub time. It was great to have another walking day with such lovely weather. The walk from the pub through Troutbeck village and back to the car took half an hour. We were back at the car by 1.20pm. Nothing difficult about this walk. In the same vein as a Sherlock Holmes ‘two pipe problem’, this was a ‘one stick walk’. (no stick is flat, two sticks is a lot of up and down)
