Name of walk | Gummers How sunset in snow |
Date of walk | 2022-12-15 |
On Thursday afternoon Ged and I walked up to Gummers How to see the stunning sunset. The car park was all icy so we parked on the hill in one of the lay-bys. It would be icy in places so we wore our Microspikes.
Looking out on the icy lay-by where we parked.
The way ahead.
One of the Luing cattle in the woods. A very hardy breed.
View of Windermere from the top of the steps.
Looking down on the frozen reservoir.
View back as we head around the back of the fell to gain the summit.
Gummers How summit cairn.
We head west to look down on Lake Windermere.
View north.
Ged poses for a sunset and snow photo.
The Coniston hills.
View down the lake towards the Fairfield Horseshoe.
We head back up to the cairn.
Get takes quite a few photos until I'm satisfied that he has got the sun perfectly central.
Time to head back down in the afterglow.
The sky to the north and east has gone all pink.
We head back towards the steps.
Windermere is looking lovely.
Not much to eat for the cattle.
Going back through the woods. I did bring headtorches, but the snow and the afterglow provided enough light.
Back at the gate to the main road.
The walk is less than two miles and very easy.
Jo.
