Middle Fell, Seatallan & Buckbarrow

Name of walk Middle Fell, Seatallan & Buckbarrow
Date of walk 2025-03-19

I’d not been to Wasdale for a while so it was time for a walk up Middle Fell, Seatallan and Buckbarrow. A 7 mile walk that I’d previously classed as easy, but it took an hour longer than it has done in the past. Age and knee replacements aside, there are no difficulties on this route. Sue and I parked on the grass at Greendale and were ready to walk at 8.30am.

The summit cairn and shelter. It had taken an hour and a half to reach here. There was a cold wind on top, so we had a brief lunch in the shelter, but that didn't provide much protection, so we headed off in the direction of Buckbarrow and lower ground.

Low Greendale was once the home of Joss Naylor, sheep farmer and legendary fell runner. It is now a holiday cottage.

We arrived back at Greendale at 2.30pm, so the walk had taken us exactly six hours. The weather had been kind, apart from the wind on Seatallan.
