Blackcombe in Snow

Name of walk Blackcombe in Snow
Date of walk 2006-03-04

As the sun was shining and snow was on them there hills we decided to go up Black Combe (1970ft). The path up is simple and you can`t get lost. Thankfully it wasn`t slippy in the least but it did get cold and a bit windy towards the summit. We set out from Whicham Church, it`s 5 1/4 miles there and back.

Tom got a blister so I headed for the summit alone. The snow for the last 200m was quite deep, up to my shins, but not too bad on the summit. The wind was blowing snow and covering all footprints on the path up. Cairn from the east side.

3

No one on the top except me and an old crow.

Got back down to the bottom and Brendan had yet to catch up so I took a look round St Mary`s Church while Tom sat and admired the view. Lots of snowdrops and crocuses out in the graveyard. Quite pretty.
Then went to Millom. Was it shut? Who can tell! Spooky!
