Name of walk | Fairport Convention, Ulverston 2015 |
Date of walk | 2015-02-01 |
On Sunday night we went to The Coronation Hall in Ulverston to see Fairport Convention once again, and to catch up with my old friend, Martin. Fairport have a new album out called ‘Myths and Heroes’, so they played a lot of their new material, which was excellent. Amazing to think that Fairport are only two years away from their 50th Anniversary! Fairport gigs always make me feel like I’m just a spring chicken! 😉

The support act was Rosie Carson and Kevin Dempsey. They were superb, they also managed to flog us their album! Rosie is from Cincinnati, but Kevin is a Brit.

The boys joined Rosie and Kevin.

Chris Leslie.

Simon Nicol, who is an original Fairport member from 1967.

Dave Pegg (Peggy).

Signs of aging......you need to sit down, memory buggered so you need the sheet music, can't see sod all so you need your specs. Welcome to a Fairport gig!

Ric Sanders, my favourite fiddle player, was modelling the new Fairport t-shirt, and Peggy.

Martin and I have been friends for well over 30 years. It is good to catch up with him when he is on tour with the band. Last year Martin toured Europe and Scandinavia with Martin Barre, former Jethro Tull guitarist. He says it is hard work, but someone has to do it! I can think of worse ways to earn a living!

Martin and me.

Gerry Conway.

Rosie and Kevin rejoin the boys for the usual rendition of 'Meet on the Ledge'

The boys sign my T-shirt for me. No, I was not wearing it at the time!

The statue of Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy outside The Coronation Hall. Stan Laurel was born in Ulverston.
We stayed for quite a while afterwards chatting to Martin, his sister, Jackie who lives in Ravenglass, and the band. Martin and the rest of the crew and band were actually staying the night in Barrow, at the Travelodge opposite Asda. We could wave to them across Walney Channel!
It was an excellent evening!
