Buttermere Circuit

Name of walk Buttermere Circuit
Date of walk 2023-04-25

Tuesday was once again a good weather day, so I drove with Ged via Windermere, Rydal Water, Grasmere, Thirlmere and Crummock Water en route to Buttermere. All the lakes had wonderful reflections as we past them, so we stopped at a couple of them to take some photos. At Grasmere the temperature was 3.5C, a bit nippy and it was going to be very cold and windy on the fells so we chose a simple valley walk for today, the 5 mile, easy, Buttermere circuit.

01

We parked on the side of Grasmere and walked back along the road to view the totally still lake with excellent reflections.

05

I drove via Whinlatter and Lorton Vale which meant I drove past Crummock Water, also very still with great reflections of Mellbreak.

07

We continued on to Buttermere, parking in the NT car park at 10am. The wind had risen by the time we reached the lake, so no reflections here. View down to Fleetwith Pike.

08

We would do an anti-clockwise circuit.

Heading back to Buttermere. The easy 5 mile walk had taken us two and a half hours, but we dawdled.

I drove back via the Honister Pass.

27

We took a walk to the shore of Derwent Water, Skiddaw ahead.

28

We then went up to Surprise View for the view over Derwent Water.
