|Name of walk
|Three Torver Tarns with Tom
|Date of walk
On Saturday Tom wanted to do a walk where we would be home before lunch, So we parked in the lay-by where the Cumbria Way path crosses the main road towards Torver, just past Sunny Bank. There are spaces for about six cars here. We arrived about 8.30am and were the only car. All the spaces were taken on our return. We would walk to Torver Low Common Reservoir, Kelly Hall Tarn and Long Moss Tarn and walk back along the Coniston Water Cumbria Way Lake Shore path. An easy 4.7 mile walk which took us 2 hours and 15 minutes.
Tom goes through the gate opposite where we have parked. It is the Cumbria Way path that will lead us up the hill.
The stepping stones across the river for the more adventurous.
We take the bridge across the beck.
We head up the hill.
Once we reach the top of the path, the Cumbria Way continues towards Beacon Fell, but we head off right for Torver Low Common Reservoir, now disused.
A glimpse of Torver Low Common Reservoir with the Coniston hills behind.
We take the path above it.
Good views over to Dow Crag and Coniston Old Man.
We follow the track which will take us out on to the main road at Beckstones, just below the Landrover dealership.
The view towards the back of the Land Rover dealership and our route up to Kelly Hall Tarn and beyond behind it.
The old barn at Mill Bridge has now been converted. There is now a sign saying 'Private, no public right of way' at Beckstones, but the track off left takes you just north of the Dealership.
We cross the road opposite the Landrover Dealership and head through the gate to Kelly Hall Tarn.
Tom has instructions to take my photo without decapitating my reflection!
We head up behind the tarn. View back to Beacon Fell.
Long Moss Tarn peeking out on the right.
At the far end is Coniston Water.
The views south of Coniston Water.
We head down to Long Moss.
Then we continue along the track. Blue sheep!
When we reach the wall with lots of trees we head down.
We head through a gate into the woods.
The track through the woods comes out at Coniston Water.
Taking the Cumbria Way lake shore path will take us directly back to within 10m of my car.
A seat to watch the fishing boats from.
Sunny Bank jetty. This used to be a floating jetty, now it is going to be a rigid one.
Where the path comes back out to my parking space, behind the bushes.
Always a good little walk!
