Name of walk | Angle Tarn Pikes & Brock Crags |
Date of walk | 2024-06-24 |
It was going to be a beautiful day and very hot, so I set off early to reach Patterdale car park for 7.30 am. I was hoping to do all the “up” before it got too hot. The plan was a 7.5 mile circular walk to include Angle Tarn Pikes, Angle Tarn and Brock Crags, returning via the path above Hartsop to Patterdale. All very familiar apart from the path from Hartsop to Angle Tarn Beck waterfall, which would be new to me.
View from Goldrill Bridge, Patterdale on my left.
Looking the other direction.
There is a sign to guide you to the start of the long diagonal path up to Boredale Hause. Always an enjoyable route as it is just a gentle incline.
The views back to Patterdale and Ullswater are gorgeous, the pink foxgloves adding a splash of colour.
Still heading gently upwards.
View to Brothers Water from my route from Boredale Hause to Angle Tarn Pikes.
I head up to the first of the Pikes. View back to my route up and over to Place Fell.
View to the 2nd Pike that has the better views.
View from the summit of Angle tarn Pikes of Angle Tarn.
Looking back to the other Pike.
Panorama. Left click to enlarge click again to return. Excellent clarity today.
I head down to the main path, but for a change I do an anticlockwise circuit.
Angle Tarn outflow.
I take the route under the crag to find a spot to stop for a coffee.
I'm sat on a large flat rock with my legs dangling over the water. Not a soul around, but then it is only 9.30 am. I should have brought my cossie!
View back to my coffee spot.
Canada Geese. I pass through the wall and make for the other side of Angle Tarn.
View back to Angle Tarn Pikes on the right.
I detour for the views down Bannerdale. The Nab on the right and Beda Fell on the left. Then I return to the main clockwise path.
The wall gate which will be my return route, but I first turn right for Brock Crags summit.
Brock Crags summit ahead.
Brock Crags summit cairn.
View down to Brothers Water.
Looking back to Angle Tarn and Angle Tarn Pikes.
I head back to the wall gate,
Once through I turn right and head for the dip.
Good view of Hayeswater and Gray Crag.
My route down. It is steep, but a comfortable way down.
Panorama. Click left to enlarge, click again to return.
The path up to Hayeswater looks like a motorway!
I continue down towards Hartsop.
Looking back to Gray Crag. I don't go down to Hartsop, but continue along the fenceline. This path goes all the way to Patterdale.
View down to Hartsop and Brothers Water.
The only awkward bit on the is route was in the woods, it was steep and the terrain was quite loose underfoot. I'm glad I had my sticks. The shade was welcome though, as it was very hot.
Back on more comfortable terrain.
Waterfall at Angle Tarn Beck.
An opportunity to cool down.
There is a route up to Angle Tarn beside the beck that I did consider, but given the bracken I think winter would be a better time to tackle this way up.
I continue on the path to Patterdale.
Nearly back at Goldrill Bridge, looking back at the start of my route up this morning.
An excellent walk on a wonderfully clear day. The walk took me five and a half hours.
